Below are some details on the most popular courses run at Cushendall Sailing & Boating Club. The priorities for each and every course are;

  1. Safety
  2. Enjoyment & Fun
  3. Learning

Youth Begin & Improve

This is by far our most popular course for ages 8 – 18. Each course lasts Monday to Friday, ending at approximately 4pm each day. The course starts with familiarisation with the sailing dinghy and its parts on Monday morning, allowing time for our qualified and experienced instructors to carry out a number of demonstrations on how to sail safely. It is not long before our instructors allow each ‘pupil’ to take control of the boat under supervision and guidance.

Whether you’ve never been in a boat before or this is your 5th course, Cushendall Sailing & Boating Club will tailor your experience that allows you to progress at your own level. We have many returning costumers who wish to develop their skills and enjoy the craic that goes with it!

Adult Begin & Improve

Our adult courses follow the same agenda as youth begin and improve. They can be run along side the youth courses, meaning the whole family can take part together!

Advanced Sailing

This course is for those who have already reached a competent level of sailing and are familiar with the basics. Taking it the next stage, our instructors will teach advanced techniques including advanced sail settings, spinnaker hoists, gybes & drops and even how to sail without a rudder!! Our Sailing School must be satisfied that each sailor has the required ability before enrolment on this course.

Racing Techniques

Similar to Advanced Sailing, this course will focus on the core ’5 essentials’ and look at how to apply your skills to the race course. Race starts, mark roundings, boat and course tactics, and expert control combine to make a great racer. These are all covered, and more in our top class Racing Techniques course.

Powerboat

All too often, powerboat owners take to the water without proper training in Boat safety and driving techniques. Our 2 day course covers all the basics including launching & recovering the boat safely, rules and regulations at sea, carrying the correct safety equipment, coming along a pier/boat, tides, anchoring, high speed manoeuvres, man overboard procedure and much more. This course is a must for any powerboat owner!!!!

One to One Tuition

If you wish to fast track your training, then these private lessons are superb. You will receive dedicated expert tuition from a fully qualified Dinghy Instructor, which enables a greater level of ability achieved in a shorter time. There is a minimum of 1 full day and this can be more flexible for those that can’t manage a full week long course all at once. Why not try two halve days to suit your diary?? A maximum of 2 people per private lesson.
